My favorite family moments include

–When each of my three children were born...
All three have had problems with premature birth and 8 long months of bedrest is definitely worth it when you finally get to see that child for the first time! However, I have not had the opportunity to see my baby’s faces after giving birth. Due to problems related to being born early, my children have all been promptly whisked away. I had to wait 3 1/2 days to finally set eyes on my last child, my son. So, being able to see that new little face is such a wonderful moment!

–When I had all three of my children experiencing a major milestone all at the same time...
My oldest daughter started High School, my youngest daughter started Kindergarten, and I gave birth to my son, all within a period of 3 months!! That was definitely my favorite year to look back on, and our “best of times” as a growing family.

–Most currently, When my youngest child snuggles up to me at night to go to sleep. It is definitely my favorite part of every day. That, and watching his face in the morning, as he sleeps- just before he wakes up. He is ALWAYS so happy to wake up to Mommy. This brings such happiness to me, and I live for it.

Money matters. As our kids enter their teens, they will also be entering the work force and need to have all of the tools necessary to survive the green jungle. Here are the top five ways to teach teens about money and what to do with it.

1. Knowledge Is Power

There’s no better way to start your teen off on the right foot than to educate them about money early on. Kids are sponges and teens are no exception. So it’s important you teach your teenager the value of a dollar and how taxes, investments, and savings work. How to budget, and how to stick to it are also important things to teach. You’ve been through all this remember, they haven’t. Share your hard won experience with them. They’ll soak it up and will have a better grasp on things when they enter the work force.

2. Bank Account

Setting a teen up with a bank account is only the beginning. They also need to understand how important it is to keep money in it. Have them put a portion of their allowance or pay check in their account. Show them how to save for a necessary big ticket item and for college. They’ll also learn how the banking world works but they’ll need careful tutoring when it comes to credit.

3. Part Time Job

There’s no substitute for experience and encouraging your teen to join the work force is the only way for him or her to get that experience. They’ll gather firsthand knowledge of how to find and keep a job, pay taxes, and save while learning the responsibilities that go with the job. They are going to spend the next several decades working at one job or another. The sooner they learn this, the better off they will be.

4. Pay Their Way

If the teen is working while living at home, then you might have them help with the household expenses. Whether you need the contributions or not, have them chip in. They’ll learn how much it costs to keep a roof over their head and you can’t put a price on that. Also, if you don’t need their money, you can set up a bank account for them and dump the money in there to give them as a nest egg when they move out.

5. Let Them Pay The Piper

This is the toughest item on the list but, ultimately, can be the most rewarding. Even if your teen has taken everything you’ve told them about handling money to heart, they might still wind up in over their head at some point. The key here is to let them get themselves out of it. Don’t bail them out. Offer advice, encouragement and so on but let them learn the consequences of irresponsible spending. If you whip out your checkbook at the first sign of trouble, your teen will be convinced this safety net will always be there to catch them when they fall and they won’t learn to stand on their own financial feet.

Okay, so budgets are a bit pinched these days. And one easy place you might look for cutbacks is in the beauty aisle. But who wants to look any less fabulous? Jennifer Worick, beauty expert and author of Girls’ Night In: Spa Treatments at Home offers these tips. Her trick: Just use things you probably already have in your home.

* Coffee grounds and baking soda - Blend for an exfoliating face scrub.

* Milk, honey, egg whites, and ground almonds - Mix for a gentle facial cleanser.

* Avocado and buttermilk - Mix fruit with 1 tablespoon of the milk for a facial mask.

* Brown sugar and olive oil - Makes a soothing body scrub.

* Sea salt and olive oil - A great foot scrub that’ll remove dead skin.

* Epsom salt, sea salt, and a peppermint tea bag - The combo for a muscle-soothing bath.

* Powdered milk and ground oatmeal - Pour into a bath as a skin-hydrating solution.

* Eye drops that reduce redness - Dab on blemishes to help reduce severity.

* Milk - Soak a clean washcloth in cold milk and place it over your face for 10 minutes—it’ll reduce any redness.

* Matchbook striking surface - Grab and file nails when no nail file is handy.

* Hand lotion - Lightly spread through hair as an anti-frizz treatment.

* Cornstarch - Lightly rub into hair as a dry shampoo.

* Petroleum jelly - Spread over cuticles or lips to ease rough skin.

* Nonflavored antiseptic mouthwash - Bathe feet in it to help remove odor and fungus.

* Spoon - Press against eyelashes to add curl.

* Cold spoon - Chill then gently press over closed eyes to reduce puffiness.

* Aspirin - Crush and mix with water into a paste to fight facial blemishes.

* Hemorrhoid ointment - Dab under eyes as a remedy for bags.

* Dryer sheets - Brush through hair or inside hat to remove static.

Hydrogen Peroxide many uses:

1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the20bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out.. (I do it when I bathe.) No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash...

2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of germs.

3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe down your countertops, or spray it on the counters directly.

4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to Kill salmonella and other bacteria.

5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of Peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.

6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine but was healed by soaking in peroxide.

7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will.

8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into a tissue.

9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get t o a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it20for ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.

10... Put half a bottle of peroxide into your bathwater to help rid boils, fungus, or other skin infections..

11. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on
clothing, pour it directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a
minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water.

Repeat if necessary.

12. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing, which is why I love it so much for this.

The rain has come but how do you catch it?

My 2 year old son went out into the summer rain yesterday morning, at his 7 year old sister's insistence. "Come on! Let's go outside in the rain with my umbrella!" Off they go, out the back door. "wait, mommy, we better get shoes", she exclaimed after her feet met the chilled puddles.

Back in the house they came, little brother crying, "shoes! shoes!" He loves any opportunity that allows him to put on shoes- whether they be his own, or someone else's.

Out the door, a second time!

The destroyer promptly stole everything from his sister's grasp and plodded out into the rain, for his first experience with the contraption called an umbrella. - not to mention with his sister's "special" bunny.

After many, many attempts to get the destroyer to share sister's umbrella and shield himself and the bunny from the rain, the fight was over. He has the bunny. He has the umbrella.

BIG sister crumples into a puddle of tears, as she bursts back into the house, with much ado and LOUD sobbing about her bunny getting wet- which was a fate worse than death, to hear her tell about it.

The destroyer just quietly and methodically went about his way, completely unphased, and apparently, unaware of sister's noisy protests and pleas for the bunny's safe return to the indoors.

He had discovered the umbrella's function! It's shape makes it idea for Catching Rain....and deep enough to possibly bathe a certain bunny

since when do 2 year old boys have such a strong opinion of what they want to wear??

My 2 year old son, was dressed in some overall shorts. He started to say "Out Out Out!!" and pulling on his clothes.

I tried to tell him, its ok, you look nice, with which he promptly ran away into the far room and sobbed loudly.

So, sighing, I said, ok...........come here I will fix it...

I took them off and he was so incredibly happy and all too willing to put on a onesie instead.
After many hugs and pats on the diaper, he trotted off again to spill more colored liquids on the carpet and spit cold cereal back into the box.

Associated Food Stores buying Albertsons in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — The 36 Albertsons supermarkets in Utah are being bought by Associated Food Stores Inc., it was announced this morning.

The stores, now owned by Supervalu, one of America’s largest grocery companies, will be transferred to Associated Food Stores in the next several months, Associated Food Stores announced. The transaction is subject to regulatory review.

“We are excited about these stores joining our great company,” said Richard Parkinson, president and CEO of Associated Food Stores. “Having served this market for 70 years, Associated Food Stores supplies local grocers who represent the only locally owned and operated grocery stores in Utah. We feel our experience and expertise will be beneficial to these new stores as well.”

Associated Food Stores serves more than 50 independent grocery stores through the Intermountain West, including Harmon’s Ream’s, Winegar’s and Kent’s. The company also owns 22 stores that operate as Macey’s, Dan’s Lin’s and Dick’s.

Dick King, senior vice president of Associated Food Stores, will become president of the new entity. He previously was president and chief operating officer of Albertson’s before joining Associated Food Stores.

Dole catalina at albertsons tonight

Well, i was purchasing some of the Dole fruit cups, parfaits, jello etc for the mega event at Albertsons and I got ten of them. My friend got 4 of them. She got a .75 OYNO cat, and I got two of them. So it looks like for every 4 you purchase, you will get the catalina. Also I got two .50/2 dole cups as well. My friend got one of them. I was disappointed that the coupon was not so good, but oh well!! it was a nice surprise anyways..

I also met thrifty mom while I was there as well :)

Well I had placed all my $2/1 starbucks icecream coupons in the trade pile as I didn't think I would use them. But Walgreens has it on a Bogo store sale, so if your store allows you to use two of the $2 insert coupons from the 6/21 newspaper inserts, then you will get two pints for .79 cents

Also, keebler cookies and crackers such as cheez-its are on sale for 4/$10. Use four $1 coupons that were online a while back or other keebler coupons. You would pay $6for 4 packages. Then you will get a $5 RR(catalina coupon) back at the register that you can spend on your next trip to walgreens on anything you want.
This makes them four packages for only $1.00
or use coupons such as .55/1 blinkies for sandies, save $1 on milk wyb cookies peelie

It must be dog week, several stores have deals on iams and pup-peroni etc..

Target has 18 lb Iams for 15.99 or 8 lb cat food for 14.00. Use the $2 off any iams coupon from the P&G year of savings coupon booklet if you have it, or use various insert coupons for this ..

Pup-eroni is on sale for $2.39 and also has coupons that i mentioned a few posts back in the albertsons sale info.

there are tons of deals to be had that you can match up coupons with sale items, but ones i like are:

Gillette or satin care shaving gel is .79 a can, if you have any $1/1 coupons
THere is a BOGO insert coupon from 6/28 newspaper, so you could use that and pay $1.79 for two cans. I have $2/1 shaving gel from walgreens catalina. it is a manufacturer coupon not a walgreens coupon. so that makes it free or possible overage.

Snuggle fabric softener is $4. There are $1 coupons to use or $2 All detergent coupons which would make it $2 a bottle for All.

Right guard and speed stick have $1/1 and $1/2 coupons, so on sale for $1.99, pay either .99 or $1.98 for two. Still a fair deal if you dont have a stockpile yet

infants and toddler clothing items for $3.50 and $5 each

women's sports bra and shorts for $5

If you like kashi cerea there is go lean crunch and heart to heart for $2.66, use various $1 coupons or printables to save some $

Shopko has head and shoulders 2 for $11. There is a bogo coupon in this sunday's paper, so that would be two bottles for less than $6. Better deals do come up but if you don't already have a stockpile on this item though, its still a fair deal.

100 calorie packs. if you have any $1/1 coupons and use two of them, they would be 2 boxes for $3

Tide is $6.99 on sale, use the $1/1 coupon from sunday's insert and get it for $5.99 32 loads

Iams cat food is a better deal here than target at 12.99, but the dog food is a dollar more than target this week.

Cover girl is B1G1 50% off. Use two $1/1 or $2/1 insert coupons for a good deal.

Country style pork ribs are .98 lb, better than albertsons by a dollar I think this week.

Hawaiian tropic sun care would be $2.99 a bottle after the $3 store coupon and the $2 mfg. coupon if you have it.

Kraft bbq sauce is a money maker(MM) as it is .89 a bottle and there are tons of $1/1 insert and printed coupons out there. Just make sure you are buying enough other stuff to make up for the overage. Or use various insert coupons for .55/1, $1/2, and .75/1

the Iams dry dog food is cheapest at fred meyers this week at $13.99 WOW

Wild harvest soy or rice milk is free with store doubler if you print the $1/1 any wild harvest printable from their website wildharvestorganic.com
also their yogurt is $1 each so it is free without doublers!

Knorr sides are $1 each so with store doubler and insert coupons .75/2, they are .25 each.

Colgate is $1.79 on sale so with any insert coupons you got, its a steal! there is an insert coupon that expires 7/18 for .75 on colgate that you could double...

Kingsford charcoal is $6.99, if you have the $2 or $3 tearpad coupons its an awesome deal, or the $6 off pork when you buy charcoal can also be used with the tearpad coupons. I did this last month and got two packages of free pork.

--->If you use TWO of the $1 kraft dressing coupons to get two bottles for free as posted earlier, you can also use the $1 off produce wyb 2 kraft dressings tearpad coupon and use the store doublers for all 3 of these $1 coupons. I never got them last week because others bought them out, so i am hoping i can still get them with the doubles and find them actually in stock! it is the only solid food my son will actually eat so far. He usually lives on yogurt, danactive yogurt drinks, and soy milk.
